Climate change is no longer a distant threat for the people of Turkana — it is a daily reality. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, frequent droughts, and resource scarcity have severely disrupted traditional pastoralist lifestyles.

Turkana’s rich cultural heritage is a vital part of its identity and resilience. Traditional knowledge, arts, rituals, and languages carry the wisdom of generations and connect communities to their land and history. At TIPD Kenya, we work to safeguard and revitalize Indigenous cultural heritage through documentation, education, and community-led conservation efforts, ensuring that Turkana’s heritage thrives for generations to come. Education Access and Equity

Empowering Indigenous Youth Through Inclusive Learning Opportunities. At TIPD Kenya, we believe that education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty, marginalization, and inequality.

Yet, for many children and youth in Turkana County — especially girls, children with disabilities, and those from nomadic pastoralist backgrounds — access to quality education remains a distant dream. Our Education Access and Equity program is designed to close this gap. We champion inclusive, culturally relevant, and accessible education systems that reflect the needs of Indigenous communities. Indigenous-Led Peace in Turkana.

In Turkana, peace is both fragile and vital. Communities regularly face conflict triggered by resource scarcity, cattle raids, political tensions, and cross-border insecurity.
These conflicts disrupt lives, hinder development, and threaten Indigenous traditions of coexistence. At TIPD Kenya, we believe that sustainable peace must be community-driven, inclusive, and culturally rooted.
We work across borders, clans, and generations to build systems of trust, dialogue, and early response that prevent violence and foster long-term harmony. What we do Community Dialogue & Mediation Read more…
